"I want you to find out who in the family murdered Harriet, and who since then has spent almost forty years trying to drive me insane." Henrik Vanger, head of the dynastic Vanger Corporation, is tormented by the loss of a child decades earlier and convinced that a member of his family has committed murder.
Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own family. He employs journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate.
When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.
Stieg Larsson, Swedish writer and journalist, was the Editor-in-Chief of the magazine Expo. He was a leading expert on anti-democratic, right-wing extremist organisations. He died in 2004, soon after delivering the text of the novels that make up The Millennium Trilogy.
Philip Pullman, The Guardian
“Intelligent, complex, with a gripping plot and deeply intriguing characters.”
The Mail on Sunday
“A rip-roaring serial-killer adventure.”
The Times
“Scores on every front - character, story, atmosphere.”
Chris, United Kingdom
“You open the book and very soon feel you are actually in Sweden. Stockholm, Hedestad... wherever; the location surrounds you. Blomkvist, Berger, Sallander are all people you would like to meet for any number of reasons but principally because they are interesting. The plot could be regarded as far fetched but is entirely plausible.
Stieg Larsson's untimely death has robbed us of a great talent and hours of first class entertainment.”
