“Kick upon kick upon kick. What is satisfying in a crime (or other) novel? The bad ones being shown up in a glorious and magnificent scene, where you can feel the villains falter, then collapse. Truth rules. But it doesn't end there. Justice in the law, but also outside the law. This is exhausting but wonderful.”
