“Comparing unabridged to abridged is like comparing a forest to a tree. The tree may be beautiful, but who knows what kingdom lies beyond it that you will never visit. To take the whole journey, you have to know the whole story.” R J Ellory
R J Ellory was born in Birmingham and studied graphics and photography, intending to pursue a career in photojournalism. However, his life-long interest in literature soon took over and he started writing crime novels, his first being published in 2003.
In 2006, City of Lies, Ellory's fourth novel was released, later shortlisted for the CWA Steel Dagger for Best Thriller. The following year A Quiet Belief In Angels was selected as one of the Richard and Judy Book Club titles, which introduced Ellory's work to a mass audience.
In 2010 R J Ellory won the prestigious Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award for A Simple Act of Violence.
He divides his time between his work as a novelist and voluntary programmes in the areas of drug rehabilitation and youth literacy. He is married with one son and lives in England.
