Peter James was born in Brighton, Sussex and educated at Charterhouse and then Ravensbourne Film School. His mother was Glovemaker to the Queen. He lives in Notting Hill in London and near Brighton in Sussex. His previous country home, a former Georgian manor house that was built on the site of ancient Roman ruins and was said to be haunted by four ghosts.
Peter's books, which are translated into 30 languages, have received acclaim from both readers and critics worldwide and he has won many international awards for his work, including Best Crime Writer of the Year (2005) in Germany for Dead Simple, and was shortlisted for Crime Thriller of the Year at the 2007 Richard and Judy Galaxy British Book Awards for Looking Good Dead.
In his spare time Peter collects classic cars, motor races and is a highly proficient skier.
